Joe Burkhart is Managing Director and Head of Business Development at Saratoga Investment Corp, a New York City-based investment firm focused on making debt and equity investments of between $5 million and $40 million in such industries as software, business services and healthcare.
Joe Burkhart has developed a distinguished career in finance with over 20 years’ experience in originating, evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing investments with small and middle market businesses. He’s built a business development team at Saratoga which consistently delivers superior deal flow through deep and diverse relationships with private equity firms, investment banks, and other lenders. Over the last 10+ years, his efforts have led to the firm consistently outperforming its peers, delivering consistent above-average returns, paying a consistently growing dividend, and increasing assets under management.
An expert in such fields as venture capital, private equity and direct credit, Joe Burkhart’s writing has been published in such publications as Axial, MarketingProfs, and The Middle Market, and he has spoken on numerous panels regarding business development best practices for the investment industry.
In addition to his expertise in driving deal flow and increasing assets under management, Burkhart is also adept at the design and implementation of customer relationship management (CRM) systems and other related software tools that improve the efficiency of investment firms.
In 2014 he launched a personal investment and consulting platform, Hardy Fort LLC, and in its first six years it considered 300 opportunities and completed 20 projects, many of which involved working with business owners to determine valuation, raise capital and run sales processes as an advisor.
Joe Burkhart has board of directors’ experience with multiple companies, and currently sits on the board of a major Washington, D.C.-area building products company.
Before joining Saratoga, Burkhart was a Director of Business Development for American Capital’s Private Equity Group where he headed deal origination, screening, and staffing. Prior to that he served as Managing Director at EJF Capital, where he focused on investment management of structured finance and private equity focused strategies.
Joe Burkhart graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in accounting, and earned his MBA with honors from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. He is an active member of the Small Business Investment Alliance (SBIA), Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), and multiple charities including Capital for Children and the SEAL Future Foundation.
